The Auto Repair Centre Home Page

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Hello and welcome. My name is Barry Newton and I am a qualified Panel beater and dabble in mechanics. I have been researching articles and websites on the internet in order to gain information on how to cut the cost of motoring. For the most part it comes down to personal driving style and doing a lot of your own repairs. When I say repairs I do not mean replacing an engine as this is beyond the scope of this site. What I do mean is Servicing, minor body repairs and minor mechanical repairs.

Listen, if I can do them anyone can. Before I had left school and had a driving licence I owned 2 cars and my second car was stripped down to a bare shell without the use of a workshop manual. The problem was putting it back together, which I never did. But things have moved on from these days and there is plenty of reading material to help us repair our cars.

I have decided to source and publish the artcles that I find useful on Auto Repair Centre in a sort of One Stop Shop. If I cannot find an article on a certain topic I will write one myself.

The Auto Repair Centre site is therefore dedicated to finding and publishing articles that will help motorists cut the cost of running their vehicles.

I really do hope you enjoy this site and if you please bookmark it and tell your friends I am away to get some articles for you. Speak to you soon.

Check this out. Out of all the articles listed here maybe this is the most important. It will save you a fortune in fuel costs and it is great for the environment. What more could you ask for?

Auto Repair

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

By Ken Marlborough

Modern-day automobiles are complex, as most auto manufacturers are using high technology to make the cars more durable. However, being machines, automobiles also encounter the usual problems related to breakdowns as well as normal wear and tear. Repairing automobiles can be very confusing and finding someone qualified to make the correct repairs is becoming even more difficult.

It’s a common proverb that “prevention is better than cure.” Similarly, the best way to avoid auto repair expenses is to be prepared and to amass knowledge about how your vehicle works and how to identify common car problems. It’s also important to know a good technician, the kinds of questions to ask, and your consumer rights. Choosing the right repair shop is the most difficult part, and the best way to solve this problem is by asking for recommendations from friends, family, and other people you trust.

One can make telephone enquiries for the best deal, and compare warranty policies on repairs. While choosing an auto technician, look for shops that display various certifications, like an Automotive Service Excellence seal. Certification ensures that the technicians are acquainted with the basic standards of knowledge and capabilities in desired technical segment.

Auto-repair charges can be expensive; therefore, it is imperative that the consumer be updated about the prevailing repair charges. Mostly, these charges vary from one repair shop to another, as some shops charge flat labor charges, while others charge on the basis of the actual time the technician worked on the repair. Many repair shops also charge for diagnostic time. However, if the technician recommends expensive or complicated repairs, it is advisable to get a second opinion. Although repair shops do not offer any “standard warranty” on repairs, it is important to understand what is covered under your warranty and get it in writing. Furthermore, check with the Federal Trade Commission or your state or local consumer protection agency for information about your warranty rights.

It is advisable to prevent common troubles like leaks and smoke, overheating problems, flat tires and the like with proper maintenance and care of your vehicle.

can someone help me find an auto repair center that will replace my exhaust header near ashtabula ohio ?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

i have an aftermarket header for my 1992 eagle talon tsi and i want it installed cause i dont have a torch or the tools to take the old one off , the engine does not need to be lifted to remove or install , just old bolts need to be burned off and new header put in its place

You try to make light of just reinstall over cut off studs good luck! Anytime rust is eating away at the bolts and studs and drilling out broken head studs you have to find a mechanic who's took box cost as much as your house. Angle drills special bits and Patience. And pay ME/HIM Or HER handsomely.

Why do Car repair centers rip you off?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I had a repair center quote me $800 worth of repair to fix my car. But a friend of mine is a mechanic and he thought I just need one part. I went and bought a $12 part and had him put it in for me and now my car works fine. My friend thought it was a thermostat that need to be replaced. I then went to do a diagnostic at Goodyear to make sure that’s what was wrong with it, and thats where they quoted me for extra crap. My friend put the thermostat in the next day and it is no longer overheating.
Car repair, particularly if the customer seems to have no idea what their problem is, are an easy scam to overestimate on. A repair place could fix the problem and add in a bunch of other pricey things that were unnecessary and it would look like they fixed the problem as estimated. Don’t go to a place you don’t trust (maybe ask your friend which places he thinks are honest). Also make sure that every time someone asks about a car repair that you tell them about your experience with the place that trued to scam you. The word will get around and people will learn to tell the crooks from the honest ones.

How do I find the dealer with the best service for car maintenance?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I am looking for a Toyota Dealer for car maintenance. Should I go to the dealer where I bought it? Is there a place I can look up customer evaluations? I live in the south San Francisco bay area.

Start with the better Bus. Bureau and get a recommendation.

Ask other Toyota car owners you see whenever you are driving around town.

If you have warranty work go back to where you bought it.

good luck

How well do you rate auto repair shops that are AAA approved?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Are auto repair centers which are AAA approved more reliable and dependable than ones that are not AAA approved? Have you had any experiences (good or bad) that you can share when using an AAA approved repair center? thx

Let me start out by saying I'm not wisest person when it comes to auto repair. Last year I had some problems with my Pontiac Grand Prix and I wasn't sure how to fix them. I tried to search the Internet for help, but the procedures were way too difficult for my skills. I ended up going to the dealship for my repairs. The dealership tends to charge more than mom and pop repair shops, but they've seen all sorts of situations (auto insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help me. Maybe you can try calling auto repair shops in your area to see if they can help you. http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com
